What's the gonna Happen?
- Reddit wants to streamline their chat products and focus only on the new Chat Channels
- On December 4th, 2023, Live Chat feature on regular posts will get disabled.
- Around Early 2024, Existing Live Chats will convert to standard posts with regular comments.
How does this impact this Subreddit?
- Live Match threads with an Active Chat like these will no longer be possible.
- Information threads could still be made and posted, but there will be no chat feature for it, only traditional comments.
Alternatives:
Reddit recommends the new chat channel feature instead.
There are alternatives like redditstream, but that has become a paid service now and not many are gonna use that realistically.
If anyone has another alternative or suggestion lemme know in comments.
From my perspective here are the pros and cons
Pros Cons Can use snoomoji reactions and mostly better interaction than Live Threads Less Public Visibility. Need to log in and go though few steps to view. Can attach pictures and links in chat comments Replies become their own separate thread, affecting reading flow Moderator tools to directly moderate the chat. Feature is still in development phase and moderator tools aren't as optimal yet. Multiple channels can be created. Cannot replicate the information detail of usual match threads, which can have multiple links, tables, pictures, etc Feature is still in development phase.Community Opinion
Idk what way to proceed for now, Chat channels have existed for some months now, but it gets very low interaction compared to Live Threads.
Ofcourse, I am also kinda responsible for that since we Mods didn't give it much attention since it was deployed around the time of the whole Reddit API drama.
We could try focusing on Chat channels, or we could not and just revert to traditional threads like it was in the older days.
Lemme know your thoughts in comments, and we will use that feedback to move accordingly.
Top Comment: Classic Reddit moment. I say we just return to traditional threads maybe sorted by new by default. It works fine in other subs with 10s of thousands of comments
What happened to Reddit Live Streaming ???

Hi Friends,
ITs been awhile since i've seen any 'Live Broadcasts' of Bands and Musicians on Reddit (what a let down). I used to look forward to seeing Talent from all over the World---playing their instruments (from drums, to violin, to guitar etc).
- What happened?
There was even a way to donate $ to the performers...bringin out the Best Talent on a Global Scale---- IF you ask ME...This was the Best sub-reddit on the Web.
- What happened?
Where are Bands playing now... can you watch them play live and Donate ?

How to create a live thread

Hi, I’m a first time mod and I wanted to create a live thread for an episode discussion. Someone said once I click on create post, they should be an option to choose post type and select live discussion but I don’t see that option. Not sure if I have to turn it on in settings or something?

Thoughts on Live?

I grew up with this band. My mom was a huge fan and owned every album, so I grew up hearing every bit of their work numerous times. My favorite albums of theirs are Mental Jewelry, Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. The others, such as V, The Distance to Here, Birds of Pray and Songs From Black Mountain are good and all have certain songs I like from them, but the three mentioned before are the ones I go back to the most. Their work as Public Affection I enjoy as well.
Top Comment: Throwing Copper was a really good album. Didn't really rate much of their work after that though. I alone is a particularly great song.
